Bay 1796. Bred by Sir Frank Standish. Purportedly one of the finest horses ever seen, and "superior to any horse in England of his time," he ran for 6 seasons, exclusively at Newmarket. He won a number of high-stakes matches, sweeps and other races, such as the Craven Stakes, over distances up to 3 miles; however, he ran third in the 1799 Derby. Bay 1778. Bred by Dennis O'Kelly, Clay Hill Stud, Surrey, sold to Mr. Wilson, under whose colors he ran. Although he won the 1781 Derby, and was considered the top horse of his generation in a particularly weak year, he was not among Eclipse's top racing or sire sons. Sired a son, also Young Eclipse (1800); sisters Joy and Lure, the latter the dam of Mary (1806) and Baronetta (1807), and a few others listed in the GSB.
Ely (Bay) Turk
SIRE: LISTER (STRADLING) TURK.
DAM: Not stated.
Bay 17--. He probably dates to just after the turn of the century, and was covering horses in the first Duke of Ancaster's stud in Lincolnshire, around 1711. Sired the Turnstall Mare (from the Darling mare by Ancaster Merlin); the Black Lister mare from the Oldfield Mare (family 14), who produced some good racehorses; and Greathead, a 1711 colt who won some races at York. The GSB says the important sire Old Pert was also his son, but this has since been disproved.
Engineer
SIRE: Sampson - Blaze - Flying Childers - DARLEY ARABIAN. Darley Arabian Sire Line
DAM: Miner's dam by Young Greyhound - mare by Curwen Bay Barb (Family 36).
Brown 1756. Bred by Mr. Fenton. A good racehorse, he is best known as the sire of the grey colt Mambrino, and through him, grandsire of Messenger, who was exported to the U.S. and is considered a foundation sire of the Standardbred breed. Also through Messenger's daughter, Miller's Damsel (dam of American Eclipse), he is seen in American pedigrees. His daughters were good producers, and included the dam of Young Sir Peter; the dam of Efleda, Blemish, and Grenadier, among other racehorses; the dam of the racehorse Extinguisher (later Cashkeeper); the dam of Young Morwick. Other sons included Fireworker (1770); Black Tom (1770).

A good racehorse who won at Newmarket, his final race against Grey Diomed the subject of such controversy in the turf world--his regular jockey, Sam Chifney was accused of rating him in a race the day before to alter the betting odds--that his royal owner retired from the turf at Newmarket ["...nobly refused to sacrifice his jockey to so unjust an imputation."]. Sire of Estifania, dam of Zephyr and Humility; and the good racehorse, and later sire, Emigrant.
