Posillipo was a long-lasting top international show jumper for Italy, winning the individual gold medal in Rome in 1960, and two Italian team bronze medals in 1960 and 1964. Ridden by Captain Raimondo d'Inzeo, who, with brother Piero, dominated Italian show jumping for years. His sire, Ugolino da Siena, was the Italian Derby winner in 1935; grandsire Ortello won a number of Italian classics and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Ugolino da Siena also got Merano, another great Olympic medal-winning show jumper for Captain d'Inzeo. |
