The talented and courageous Neji ran for eight years, winning the American Grand National three times, the last carrying 176 pounds, and becoming the American national steeplechase champion three times also. When he retired in 1960 he had won more money steeplechasing than any other in the world, to that time. Sire Hunter's Moon IV won the Cesarewitch Stakes in 1940, and was sent to stud in America, where he got some very good steeplechasers, including Sun Dog (American Grand National, twice), Mountain Dew (Maryland Hunt Cup, three times). Both Hunter's Moon IV and his sire, Foxhunter, ended their days in Argentina. |
