Green Cheese was a Virginia-bred gelding who lost his rider in his first race, a maiden chase at Saratoga in 1931, and towards the end of that same season he won the American Grand National. He won several other top steeplechases, including the Manly Memorial and the Broadhollow Steeplechase (twice). Sire Rockminster was a stayer who won the Latonia Championship and the Pimlico Cup; Green Cheese's second dam was dam of the top flat race horse Kai Sang. |
