Battleship

Considered too small to ever make a good 'chaser, American-bred and owned Battleship won both the Grand National and the American Grand National, and sired two winners of the latter race (son Shipboard won it twice), as well as a number of other top 'chasers and hurdlers. His sire was Man O' War, who also got three-time Maryland Hunt Cup winner Blockade and American Grand National winner Best Play, and two sons who sired American Grand National winners. His dam, the unraced Quarantaine, was by Sea Sick, the top three year old of his generation in France. Sea Sick also sired Coyote, 1927 winner of the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris, and was damsire of Mageulonne, 1928 Grand Steeple winner, and of Inshore, 1936 winner of the Maryland Hunt Cup.
