JONABELL FARM, established by John A. Bell, was originally located on land leased from Hamburg Place on Winchester Road east of Lexington Kentucky. In the 1960s it moved to its present location on Parker's Mill Road. Horses buried here include SINGING GRASS, dam of 1954 Derby and St. Leger winner NEVER SAY DIE (foaled at the original Jonabell); DARK DISPLAY, dam of the 1950 2yo champion BATTLEFIELD; KERALA, 1967 Broodmare of the Year and dam of champion DAMASCUS; and the great race filly CICADA (1959). Jonabell began standing stallions in the 1970s. Among the best buried here are Triple Crown winner AFFIRMED and "White Lightning" VIGORS. Jonabell Farm is now owned by Darley Stud Management. -- A.P.
