Tulyar

Tulyar, who won the Epsom Derby Stakes, the St. Leger and the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes in 1952, has proven to have an influence on jumpers as well as flat racers. He got American Grand National winner Mako, and son Bahrain sired a number of top international show jumpers. Son Menelek, used almost exclusively for breeding jumpers, got two Grand National winners--Rag Trade and Hallo Dandy--and other horses, such as April Seventh, who ran at the top levels of 'chasing, and Bit of a Skite, who won the Irish Grand National. Menelek also got some very good daughters, including the dam of 1999 Murphy's Gold Cup winner The Outback Way, the dam of the top hurdler Large Action, and the dam of the Punchestown Chase winner Imperial Call. Menelek was also damsire of the Swedish Warmblood international jumper, Irco Mena (Nations Cup, 1994), who has since sired other top show jumpers.
