Bred in England, Tourist won the Princess of Wales Stakes (on the flat) at age 3, and finished fifth in the St. Leger. Purchased to the U.S. in 1928 by John Sanford, who sent him over fences in 1929 in the McGregor Steeplechase, which he won by fifteen lengths. He won the American Grand National twice, the second time against high class imported company. His son, Trough Hill, won the American Grand National in 1950. He was by leading sire in Great Britain, Son-in-law, a source of stamina and class, who is seen in the pedigrees of other chasers and many top international show jumpers.
