Marlon

Irish-bred Marlon was a contemporary of the thoroughbred Ladykiller, both of whom were purchased to improve the Holsteiner studbook. His immediate progeny were highly successful in all three sporthorse disciplines. They included Montevideo, Olympic dressage team gold medal winner; top international eventers Maniok and Milano; international-level show jumpers Malva, Ma Soliel, Mentor and Mowgli. His dam was the daughter of a moderately successful flat racehorse and sire, Fairfax (by Fairway). Sire Tamerlane was a good stakeswinner and successful sire, placing second to Our Babu in the 2,000 Guineas, but was not considered a top level stayer. Grandsire Persian Gulf also got the thoroughbred Papyer, used as a foundation sire for the Westphalian breed, whose Westphalian son, Paradox I, got over 300 show jumpers and more than 20 approved warmblood sire sons.
