Ferro

Ferro was a very good racehorse in Germany, winning the Deutsches (German) Derby, the Union Rennen, the Grosser Preis von Berlin (new course record), and other races, and retired to become a leading sire in Germany. Son Athanasius, a Germany Derby winner, established a line of good flat racers -- Ticino, (German Derby, Grosser Preis von Berlin (3 times), leading sire); Neckar (Germany Derby, Prix de Chantilly). Three of Neckar's thoroughbred sons became instrumental in German warmblood breeding, and Vollkorn, approved as a sire for Oldenburgs, Hanoverians, Trakehners and Westphalians, produced the champion Oldenburg son Volturno (among others), who helped win the team Olympic silver medal in eventing in 1976 and went on to produce approved warmblood sons, show jumpers and dressage horses. Ferro son Abendfrieden got two important thoroughbred sons, Perser, an approved Hanoverian sire, and Pik As, who proved to be a top sire of international showjumpers and whose line is still valued in various warmblood breeds. Ferro's son, Anblick, produced a Holsteiner son, Aldato.
