Blockade won the Maryland Hunt Cup three years in succession, one of the few multiple winners of that grueling event. He was owned by Mrs. E. Read Beard, and later sold to C.E. Tuttle, and ridden by J.F. Colwill, and trained by Janon Fisher, Jr. His sire, Man O' War, also got Battleship, who won both the American Grand National and the Grand National Steeplechase at Aintree (who later sired top steeplechasers in America), and American Grand National winner Best Play. His dam, Rock Emerald, was by the Rock Sand son, Trap Rock a full brother to the influential American sire Tracery. Trap Rock was also broodmare sire of the three-time Maryland Hunt Cup winner, Winton. |
