*Young Bald Peg--Young Bald Peg by the Leedes Arabian, bred by Sir R. Milbanke, is listed in the GSB as a filly out of the Old Morocco Mare (V.1 (5th ed.),p.14). Under Bay Peg's (her daughter's) listing, it notes that "some accounts make Y. Bald Peg as by Spanker (rather than by Leedes' Arabian as listed in her original entry). C.M. Prior, in Early Records of the Thoroughbred Horse (London: The Sportsman, 1924), citing account book notes made by John Hervey during a visit to the Leedes stud in 1705, notes that he purchased a 2 year old "bey colt (got by ye brown Barbe King William gave his [Anthony Leedes'] father, under bey Peg, which was a daughter of Young Spanker)..." Hervey's visit was contemporaneous with the horse's lives, rather than 80 plus years after the fact (The GSB was first published in 1791). Prior believed it likely Young Spanker was the true sire of Bay Peg.

**Cream Cheeks (Mare by Leedes' Arabian, Sister to Leedes) is presented in the GSB as out of a mare by Spanker, from The Old Morocco Mare (who was also Spanker's dam). C.M. Prior found what he considered to be two pieces of evidence to indicate this pedigree was incorrect, and that the correct pedigree was: Betty Leedes (by Careless) - Mare (Cream Cheeks) by Leedes Arabian - "A Famous Roan Mare of Sir Marmaduke Wyvill's" of unknown parentage. Thus, according to Prior, The lines descending from the Spanker mare--the Wyvill Roan mare, if the Routh studbook is to be believed--including the two famous brothers, Flying Childers and Bartlett's Childers may not belong in Family 6 at all. The evidence is presented in two books by Prior, The Royal Studs 1576-1650 (London: Horse and Hound, 1935) and Early Records of the Thoroughbred Horse (London: The Sportsman, 1924). The pedigree given by Prior is drawn from the stud book of Cuthbert Routh, first published in Early Records, Routh, a near neighbor of Marmaduke Wyvill, wrote this down in 1726, almost 70 years prior to the first publication of the GSB. Over ten years later Prior found another piece of supportive evidence in an inventory taken of the Duke of Devonshire's (2nd) stud upon his death in 1729. Devonshire purchased Flying Childers and stood him at stud at Chatsworth. There was listed, along with a number of mares with Childers foals at side, a mare "In the Parke," listed with other barren mares, called "Wyvell Roan." Prior believed the Duke purchased one of the "famous roan mare's" family, after determining Childers outstanding merits.
